Mule Deer Bucks in Velvet

October 28, 2012

Mule Deer Bucks in Velvet from Michael Pellegatti -Wild Visions on Vimeo.

This video documentary shows how mule deer bucks shed their antlers in late winter.  They will start growing new ones immediately and the antlers can grow as much as 1/4 inch a day. During this growth period they are covered with a velvet-like covering. By the end of August they are fully grown and then it’s time to rub off the velvet.
